ORTHOPEDIC TRAUMA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP

The Trauma Fellowship is a one-year program designed to prepare an orthopedic surgeon for a career in orthopedic traumatology and post- traumatic reconstructive surgery.

ORTHOPEDIC TRAUMA FELLOWSHIP

Clinical training is provided in all aspects of trauma, with particular emphasis on multifaceted problems, including blunt poly-trauma, open fractures, complex periarticular fractures, and intricate pelvic and acetabular fractures. Post-traumatic reconstructive experience comprises mal-unions, non-union, bone defects, and fusions.

This fellowship provides a broad exposure to the management of multiple-injured patients, mixed with the management of the orthopedic infections and nonunion. The fellow will be an integral member of the orthopedic trauma team, on call for both Sutter Roseville Medical Center, designated Level II Trauma Center, providing 24-hour emergency care for all types of illness and injury, with our team of trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists, physician specialists and nurses treat more than 50,000 patients each year in a seven-county region and Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Recipient of Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ From Healthgrades. Distinction puts Mercy San Juan Medical Center in the Top Five Percent of Hospitals Nationwide.

You will use the latest technologies such as minimally invasive techniques for diagnosis and surgery and computer-aided navigation during surgery which enables 3D mapping of a joint. This is exciting for you and highly beneficial for your patients with reduced scarring and recovery time.

You can expect to be on-call for trauma emergencies and to sometimes work out-of-hours on long surgical procedures, more so than in some other surgical specialties. All fellows enter the program after successful completion of an accredited residency program.  Applications can be submitted through the SF Match Website.  More information about the fellowship can be found on the OTA website.

Our philosophy is to afford the trauma fellow as much independence as possible, yet provide 100% attending coverage to guarantee an optimal learning environment.

  • Duration: 1 year (August 1 to July 31)
